U.S. Passport FAQs: How Do I Get A Passport?

How much does it cost to get a passport?

For adults, the regular government application fee for a first-time passport book is $110. There is also $35 Execution (Acceptance) Fee. The fee for a first-time passport card is $30, plus the $35 Execution (Acceptance) Fee. How long does it take to get a passport?

Passport processing times can very depending on the time of year, and unforeseen circumstances. Regular processing through the Post Office may take up to 6 weeks on average. How do I get a passport quickly? What is the fastest way to get a passport?

Expedited passport processing is the best option if you need to get your passport fast. You will need Proof of Travel Plans in order to expedite your passport. Passports can be received in two weeks or less through our service, even as fast as 24 hours.

How do I renew my child’s US passport?

If your child is under age 16, he or she must appear in person with you and the child’s other parent or guardian to apply. How long is my US passport valid?

If your US passport was issued when you were 16 years old or older, your passport is valid for 10 years. If your US passport was issued when you were 15 years old or younger, your passport is valid for 5 years.

Can I get my passport same day? Do you offer rush passport services?

Do I need a passport to go on a cruise?

Most cruise lines strongly recommend that all guests travel with a passport. Passports make it possible for you to fly back to the U.S. from a foreign port should there be an emergency. A Passport also allows you to fly from the U.S. to and between foreign ports should you miss your scheduled port of embarkation.

I was born abroad and became a naturalized citizen, can I get a US Passport?

Yes, you must submit your original naturalization certificate with your application. Your documents will be returned by the agency with your new Passport.

What is a passport card?

The passport card is a wallet-size travel document that can be used to travel from the United States to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land and sea but not air. The card provides a smaller, more convenient, and less expensive alternative to the passport book for those who travel frequently to these destinations by land or sea. visit our U.S. Passport Card page for more information about applying for or renewing your passport card.
